Art Can Move A Nation-Video interview with Gregory Truett Smith

Gregory Truett Smith started on his artistic path at an early age. He’s a child of the 60′s and 70′s, and the images from that era have influenced his work, just as great painters have.  Gregory still sketches by hand, forgoing the digital route.  There’s something about holding a pencil against paper that connects the artist with the art, and Gregory is connected to his art to the core of his soul.  Watch and learn more about another great Austin artist.

Faces of David-guest blog post by Barbara Lugge

I spent the summer of 2010 on scaffolding built around and above Michelangelo’s 23-foot statue of David in the Galleria dell’ Accademia in Florence, Italy. I set up lights and took photographs for my Faces of David portrait series (pictured below). I did all of this from my home in Austin, Texas with the help of Stanford University’s Digital Michelangelo Project.

The Making of Squaresville-guest blog post by Paul Borelli

Ry Rocklen-artist in residency at UT Visual Arts Center

When we visited the UT Visual Arts Center recently, we had the opportunity to visit Ry Rocklen, a Los Angeles-based artist that is in residency at the VAC. Ry’s exhibit entitled “ZZZs” is based around the idea of sleep. He talks about it during the interview, so have a listen, and go out to the exhibit at the opening on September 24-26.
